Accessibility Audit

Accessibility | Workshop

One in seven people across the UK live with a disability, including visual, hearing, cognitive and motor-mobility. Consequently, more than 14 million users face daily barriers (digital and physical), creating social displacement. That’s why we’re championing accessibility and digital inclusion at Zenitech, striving for automatic, universal access to all digital products and services.. An accessible and inclusive digital estate is fundamental to legislative compliance, but it’s also an opportunity to invest in an exceptional user experience, whilst demonstrating true empathy to all users and their individual needs.

Zenitech’s accessibility audits, in line with ‘Web Content Accessibility Guidelines’ (WCAG 2.1), will evaluate your level of compliance and help define AAA standards for existing and/or new products, meaning you can confidently capture 100% of your target audience.

The accessibility challenges organisations face

  • Five million people in the UK with significant sight loss or are colour blind, according to the Royal National Institute for the Blind.
  • UK National Health Service data indicates that 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability.
  • One in six UK adults are affected by hearing loss; Eight million of these are aged 60+.
  • 70% of users with an accessibility issue leave an online shopping or web experience because of poor site compliance.
  • Poor accessibility makes users think harder, work harder and listen harder; a disruptive or biased product or service provides a poor user experience.
  • Many organisations exclude accessibility standards and compliance from the creation of a ‘minimum viable product’ and in doing so miss a large section of their potential customer base.

Benefits of putting Accessibility at the heart of your design

“Invariably, when we design something to be used by those with a disability, we often make it better for everyone.” Don Norman

  • You will maximise the return from your product by reaching the maximum audience possible.
  • Accessibility is the cousin of usability and SEO; minimising barriers will create a better user experience for all users, leading to a more positive Google rating.
  • You will create a fully inclusive product and brand, increasing loyalty from disability communities.
  • You will improve net promoter scores (NPS) and Trust Pilot ratings leading to higher brand confidence, strengthening your brand image and reputation.

Workshop Agenda

At Zenitech we want to empower your organisation to deliver ongoing accessibility and digital inclusivity with our strategic recommendations. We will examine your current digital real estate, content and code, and deliver a guide to meet your accessibility requirements that gives your users a more inclusive experience. We recommend accessibility is tested regularly throughout your product’s life-cycle.

Automated testing

Systematic evaluation of your digital real estate to identify accessibility issues and barriers inline with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) to provide the infrastructure for a manual compliance audit. This is a quick and cost-effective method to understand actions that require a high priority. Summary of findings to be categorised by:

  • Accessibility rating
  • Colour contrast analysis
  • Naming and description inspection
  • Passed audits
  • Screen reader navigation order

Manual compliance audits

This is supplementary to our automated testing evaluation that requires human evaluation to provide a holistic, end-to-end report.

  • Appropriate image alternative text
  • Appropriate page title, defined language and hierarchy
  • Interactive and animation elements
  • Appropriate ARIA roles and customer interactive controls
  • Responsive design analysis
  • Off-screen contents and touchpoints hidden to assistive technology

Key Deliverables

Our Accessibility & Digital Inclusivity report will identify your accessibility rating in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).

Your report will include a high-level summary of passed tests, in addition to critical issues that require immediate attention. Our accompanying manual compliance audit will complete this report by providing a holistic, end-to-end analysis. This will provide focus for your organisation to make meaningful and efficient improvements to your accessibility and digital inclusivity rating.

We recommend accessibility is tested regularly throughout your products life-cycle.
