Bringing IT to the UK energy transition to address key regulatory challenges, firms are shortlisted for prestigious industry accolade.

Cambridge, November 9, 2023 — Independent energy tech platform Origami, in partnership with Zenitech, advanced software and engineering service providers, announce their status as finalists in the 2023 UK IT Industry Awards. The companies were shortlisted for the combined efforts of their development team in creating integrated solutions to support clients in the distributed energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) industries.

The UK energy market has recently faced rapid changes to its market structures and regulations, with energy service companies shifting frequently to adhere to the evolving requirements.

The Origami team have built an independent technology platform to service the global transformation of the energy sector and engaged an advanced software engineering partner to build localised integrations for the GB National Grid. This scalable working model has proven so effective that its joint project team meant the Origami platform was the first to pass testing for the newest GB ancillary services delivery requirements, ensuring BESS customers using Origami’s technology platform were able to continue providing balancing services to National Grid.

By the conclusion of the combined integration project, Origami was fully prepared to operate under the new reforms, becoming the first company in the industry to pass all testing for the latest regulatory mandates.

For this achievement, Zenitech and Origami are in the running for The Development Team of the Year award, given to the team or department that shows how its work has helped achieve or exceed an organisation’s goals or has contributed to the overall success of the organisation over the previous year.

The UK IT Industry Awards are designed to celebrate and promote the organisations, teams, projects, technologies and individuals who continue to help shape the future of the IT industry and broader digital society. The largest and most well-known event in the technology industry calendar — owned and operated by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and Computing — the awards enjoy professionalism and industry knowledge not seen at other shows.

“We’re so proud to have been named finalists for the Development Team of the Year award”, said Alex Haylock, Engagement Director at Zenitech, “our project team had to work hard to gain a comprehensive understanding of the National Grid infrastructure so that the integration we were working on went smoothly and helped Origami become fully prepared for the new regulations.”

“Our development team’s supportive, flexible, and goal-focused approach meant they took the time to understand the needs of both our client and external stakeholders like the National Grid. The team did everything it could to adapt its approach and find ways of working that suited both clients and stakeholders, moving us swiftly towards fulfilling our client’s goals.”

Steve Hirst, Origami, added: “Our strategic focus on BESS as the key growth driver is sure to open the door to many new opportunities in future. But to succeed in that mission, we needed to respond effectively to the movements on the regulatory side of our operations, through digital transformation and integration. Our work with Zenitech is proof of the inextricable link between cutting-edge IT and the future energy landscape. We’re grateful to have been recognised as finalists in that pursuit, and we wish the best of luck to the other candidates.”

The #UKITAwards was hosted on Wednesday, 8th November 2023, in London.
