The role

Zenitech is looking for an experienced SRE Consultant (or Lead) to support a project with one of our clients in the Lottery Industry.

As an SRE Consultant (or Lead), you will be the lead in a team of six Site Reliability Engineers focussing on ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of specific components within the client’s digital ecosystem to enhance user journey.

This consulting engagement is to review the existing processes and transform them to be more reliable, efficient and stable. As such, you will serve as the primary point of contact for the business overseeing the strategy, collaboration, process improvement, risk management and client communication.

What you will do

  • Define the roadmap and lead the delivery of the SRE team’s workload, setting objectives to meet project milestones and measuring progress effectively.
  • Build system monitoring processes to ensure optimization, reliability, and stable performance of critical systems.
  • Facilitate communication between SREs, development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
  • Report on system reliability, incidents, and improvements to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Implement best practices in reliability engineering, incident management, and automation to enhance system performance.
  • Identify potential risks to system reliability and develop mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to lead remote engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ideally in an SRE or operations-focused function.
  • Expertise in incident management processes, including establishing and maintaining Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Experience conducting in-depth post-mortem analyses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with scalable systems architecture and ensuring high availability of large-scale distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies, such as microservices and serverless architectures (a plus).
  • Exceptional skills in driving cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, and operational teams.
  • Strong understanding of customer satisfaction metrics and experience in implementing KPIs and feedback loops.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to process improvement and addressing customer support challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, deliver projects on time, and handle competing demands.
  • Knowledge of service management processes, such as the ITIL framework.
  • A robust technical background is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in Site Reliability Engineering or a similar role, focusing on system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and tools, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proven track record in implementing and optimizing monitoring and alerting systems.

Management and Leadership Skills:

  • Strong leadership abilities to guide and support distributed teams.
  • Capability to drive alignment between stakeholders, ensuring objectives are met collaboratively.
  • Adept at fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Additional Specifications:

  • The SRE team will be responsible for 24/7 system support.
  • While on-call hours are not expected from the SRE Consultant, they will act as the point of contact during incidents or escalations if the SRE team fails to respond.
  • Contract, outside IR35, Hybrid (2 days/week in client’s office Watford /London).
