About the role
We are looking for a motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to manage and enhance AWS infrastructure for essential systems. The team is responsible for ensuring that all systems are running perfectly while proactively improving them, and developing the monitoring processes. This is an exciting opportunity for a person who has a tendency to seek operational excellence, show ownership, and improve their own knowledge constantly.
What you’ll do
Support AWS infrastructure for
- Website: Ensuring the daily operation of the website
- Backend for Frontend (BFF) APIs: Support of the BFF APIs that facilitate communication between front-end interfaces and backend services
- Geo Location: Support and maintenance of the live geolocation service provided by the BFF
- Content Management System (CMS): Support updates of Magnolia CMS and any associated AWS infrastructure
- Non-Production Environments: Oversight and maintenance of development, testing, and staging environments
Skills and qualities we appreciate
- Cloud Architecture Automation: Expertise in automating cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, preferably Terraform. Experience in assuring reliability and maintaining scalable, resilient architectures on cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Build and Deployment Pipelines: Proficiency in setting up and managing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, preferably using Github Actions
- Monitoring and Observability: Implementing advanced monitoring solutions (AppDynamics, AppD RUM, CloudWatch or others) to gain insights into system performance and user experience, enabling proactive issue detection
- Log file querying and analysis: using tools such as logz.io, Splunk, ELK stack
- Security and Compliance: Ensuring that systems comply with security standards and regulatory requirements, integrating security into the development and operational processes (DevSecOps)
- Containerisation and Orchestration: Proficiency in managing containerised applications with a focus on orchestration and scaling. Experience working with AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS) to deploy and maintain scalable, secure, and efficient containerised solutions
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Working closely with developers throughout the software lifecycle, participating in code reviews, and contributing to architectural decisions to embed reliability from the ground up
- Automation of Manual Tasks: Identifying repetitive tasks and automating them to reduce toil, increase efficiency, and allow focus on strategic improvements
- Customer-Centric Focus: Prioritising user experience by ensuring that services not only are available but also perform optimally from the user’s perspective
- Software Development Skills: Competence in programming and scripting languages to develop automation scripts, tooling, and to contribute to the codebase. Knowledge of Bash, Java and/or Python would be considered as a plus
- Mobile: Experience in troubleshooting and configuring Android and iOS mobile apps would be considered as a plus
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
