A platform at breaking point

A port authority, responsible for inland waterway port operations and maritime transport information services, was hampered by fragmented, paper-based processes. Individual ports ran independently with weak digital support, often relying on Excel, with arrival reports sometimes still handled manually, creating inefficiencies, compliance risks, and limited operational visibility.

Zenitech worked closely with the authority’s tender documentation and a dedicated port boss during discovery, mapping intricate workflows spanning vessel and vehicle entry-exit procedures, berth planning, port logging, and OSAP reporting. This identified a diverse user base; vessel operators, port operators, terminal operators, gate staff, truck drivers, and operator staff; each needing role-specific interfaces.

The result was KIR (Port Information System), a unified platform for managing vessel arrival notifications (BERMAN, AIS ETA/RTA), berth planning, cargo logging, statutory OSAP 1857 reporting, and road vehicle access and routing. Built on a .NET/MSSQL architecture with a RESTful WebAPI, responsive browser frontend, and native Android/iOS apps, KIR integrates with PannonRIS, the HIR ship registry, Active Directory, and license-plate recognition systems.

Delivered over an 18-month cycle through iterative releases and close stakeholder collaboration, it has centralised operational workflows and standardised data exchange with national services, ensuring consistent regulatory compliance across all ports.
