The Role

We are looking for an expert in Geographic Information Systems. The project focuses on enhancing a motorway signage system that provides real-time traffic updates, weather warnings, and rerouting instructions. The key initiative is to introduce a new feature that enables the simultaneous control of multiple signs within a designated area. This role is open only to people who speak the Hungarian language.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases and GIS applications
  • Implement and manage semantic and vector maps
  • Design and implement transformations to and from the EOV (Egységes Országos Vetület) coordinate system
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret spatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, GPS, and field surveys
  • Create and update maps, reports, and visualizations to support planning and decision-making
  • Provide GIS data to other databases and applications with standards like Web Feature Service (WFS), and Web Coverage Service (WCS)
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain data quality, accuracy, and standards
  • Provide GIS-related training and technical support to team members
  • Stay updated with the latest GIS technologies and industry trends

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science
  • Ability to speak and write in Hungarian language
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as GeoServer, OpenLayers, and OSGeo
  • Understanding of semantic and vector maps
  • Familiarity with the EOV (Egységes Országos Vetület) coordinate system
  • Knowledge of GIS topologies and spatial data structures
  • Experience with web-based GIS applications and geospatial APIs
  • Familiarity with GIS data formats (Shapefiles, GeoJSON, WMS, WFS, etc.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Java, JavaScript, or SQL for automation and customization
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Familiarity in implementing full-stack web applications with the Vaadin framework is a plus
  • GWT knowledge is a plus
